Description
Located between the municipalities of La Morra and Barolo, Cerequio is considered one of the most prestigious crus of Barolo. A splendid amphitheater of vineyards where soils, exposure and microclimate combine to create exceptional Barolos. «Very select position», as described in 1880 by Lorenzo Fantini, author of the first monograph on viticulture in the province of Cuneo, it was included by Renato Ratti among the «First Category» crus in the famous Barolo Map of 1965, the basis of today's classification in MGA, or Additional Geographical Mentions, which indicates this area as "absolutely prestigious".
Due to its fortunate position, protected from the winds, Cerequio is defined as the «Langhe Riviera». Here Michele Chiarlo manages nine hectares of Nebbiolo from Barolo vines, of which approximately 6 acquired in 1988 from an estate that had cultivated them continuously for over two centuries.
From the oldest (1972) and very small (0.9 Ha) parcel, only in exceptional years, we obtain the Barolo Cerequio Riserva, a very small and exclusive oenological gem. Finally, nestled among the rows, stands Palás Cerequio by Michele Chiarlo, the first relais dedicated to the Barolo crus, born from the recovery of an eighteenth-century noble palace.
GRAPE VARIETY: Nebbiolo

EXTENSION:9 Ha
EXPOSURE: South, south-west
ALTITUDE:320 m above sea level

Of Tortonian formation (about 9 million years old), they are composed of calcareous-clayey marls of marine sedimentary origin, characterized by basic pH, poor in organic substances but rich in microelements such as magnesium and manganese. They give wines of great character and balance: austere, structured, elegant, in harmony between finesse and aromaticity
SUSTAINABILITY AND CARE OF THE TERRITORY: The Cru Cerequio is part of the VIVA “Sustainable Wine” project that Michele Chiarlo has adopted to improve and monitor its environmental impact and sustainability along the entire supply chain
UNESCO CORE ZONE: The Cru Cerequio is located within one of the 6 core zones that make up the fiftieth UNESCO site in Italy: The wine-growing landscapes of Langhe-Roero and Monferrato, declared a World Heritage Site in 2014
